How I came to learn Holistic Health.
In June of 1999, I had to quit working as a self-employed cabinet builder. The reason was life events had built up and my anxiety problems had escalated to a point that was beyond my control, was beyond a safety factor. For a time I was not even allowed to drive. I was having blackout spells and was pretty much confined to a bed even. Things were looking pretty rough. I had to take Social Security to court because I did not have a “Listed” disability for them to grant it to me. I won at court the first time. I still have not won Veteran’s Administration connection.. Lots of reasons .. But I view it mainly as they are stalling what I should have already. Shrugs that is another journal entry.
*Back to the theme *
Well, a family member gave me an older used computer so I could learn how to do that and spend time reading on the net. I’ve never liked TV much. Anyways.. I ran across an article on the net that spoke of a woman who had received Reiki and had slowly improved her condition in the span of months of treatments. She went on to become a Level III Master/Teacher herself. I was inspired. So I sought an online Reiki Master.. Who became both my Teacher and My online Sister, Deb Bussa ( winged wolf). I learned Reiki from her progressing up through all three attunement levels, eventually. Giving Reiki distantly and hands on to those who showed need. It was during this time that Wife and I became Certified Holistic Health Practitioners for my own healing due to disability.
Eventually, I began to expand into other healing modalities Such as Reflexology, other Reiki forms, crystals, drumming, chanting and more. Though I was beginning to focus on energy work a lot.
During all this time of learning.. I eclectically picked up many core shamanic methods from various readings, and linked up with Foundation for Shamanic Studies. And have Continued ever since.. I’m always looking for new ways and ideas on how to aid self and others, and through helping others I have found I also help myself. It’s a cycle.
For me, Holistic Health and Spirituality are deeply tied and connected. They require some of the sharing of theories and mannerisms of metaphysical elements. This requires one’s abstract knowledge and how to incorporate it. It requires a certain amount of visualization skills. It requires Openness. It requires that one love oneself and others equally.
Being a Healer isn’t something one can decide to be - but rather what one becomes as he/she grows and learns and shares with others.
Since it was brought up in a group here on Beliefnet-- We aid ourselves, family and friends. I do not charge nothing for what I do. Healing and Helping others is where I feel most comfortable working one on one with others. Sometimes when someone needs more help and mention it.. I talk of barter or donations. That too to me is not pay but balance in giving and receiving.
I have not taught that many Reiki as I have not been asked … I withdrew from many about two years ago.. And have not taught anyone during that time frame. Most are content to just receive Reiki or other healing modality and improve and wander on down their life journey. That is fine by me.
